How much does a psychiatric evaluation cost?

While all psychologists are different, you can find one for a reasonable price if you do a bit of research. If you live in an urban or semi-urban area, you could find a clinic with a sliding scale making it almost free depending on your income. With state or federally funded clinics, you can get a basic psychological evaluation. These clinics will also offer you information on in-depth care in your area if you need ongoing treatment, such as counseling services. As a matter of fact, depending on your local mental health service provider, this may be a requirement if you are in need of long term care.

With most professional services, you can expect to pay anywhere between 60 to 100 dollars, depending on the depth of your evaluation. Many doctors are willing to offer a discount to those that are uninsured. This can add up to major savings if you have to pay for your medical bills out of pocket.

If your psychologist administers a Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory, also known as MMPI, or the revised MMPI-2, you can expect to pay a bit more for the actual testing. However, this is a great way to get a basic outline of your current mental state. The MMPI is an industry standard test, so as long as you are honest on the test and really want help, it can provide valuable insights into the inner workings of your brain. It could also help to diagnose an issue that you had no idea you even had.

You would be surprised at how affordable a visit to a psychologist can be. When you take into account the ability of a trained mental health professional to improve your quality of life, you can be sure that it is well worth the time and money. You need to make sure to take care of your mental health just as you do with your physical health. You would be surprised to learn that a mental issue can cause physical symptoms.

Consider Alternative

There are different approaches to treatments in psychology, and payment will vary depending on the treatment. Things such as hypnosis therapy and behavioral modification are much more involved and as such, you should expect to pay a premium for anything besides general psychology. Be aware of any doctors that advertise these services; a simple search through an online search engine will uncover a lot about a doctor. Due to the popularity of such things as hypnosis there have been a number of scam artists emerge in this particular practice.

In conclusion, you can expect to pay about 60 dollars for a basic evaluation and upwards of 100 dollars for an evaluation with the MMPI. The good thing about going for the MMPI is that you can keep your own results, which are invaluable to any mental health professional for a quick overview of your personality. When looking for an affordable psychologist, anything you can do on your own will help out tremendously. If you have old MMPI results make sure to keep those handy, you could save yourself some serious money.

The cost for a psychiatric evaluation is between $250-400, this is without a written report. With a written report, it can be $900-1500.

For a psychological,, the cost for the evaluation alone is approximately 175-250, unless the MMPI-2 or MMPI-2-RF is used, then the cost can increase significantly due to interpretation. The cost for this type of evaluation is generally $250-400. the cost for a report (usually 8-12 pages or so) can be $12-1800.

AN MMPI alone will only scratch the surface, it is the mental status, interview and behavioral observations that help give the MMPI context.

Most evaluations are covered by insurance. Some insurers require a prior authorization now.
